Safety eyes

Garage Door Sensor Repair in Moore Haven

When a door refuses to close or bounces back up, the safety eyes are usually involved. We align, clean, rewire or replace them so the door closes normally.

A Small Pair of Eyes With a Big Responsibility

Two small units sit near the floor on either side of the opening and pass an invisible beam between them. If anything crosses it while the door closes, the opener stops and reverses. Openers made since 1993 are required to have this feature.

A blocked beam, a bumped bracket or damaged wiring tells the opener something is in the way, so it will not close. Sun glare, spider webs, dust, a nudge from a bin or chewed wire are all common causes. We find which one it is and return the system to reliable operation.

Sensor Trouble to Look For

  • The door descends, then reverses

It starts closing, then climbs back up with nothing visibly in the way, and the opener lamp may blink as a fault signal.

  • It only closes while you hold the button

Many openers let a held wall button override the eyes. That gets the door shut, but it means the safety beam is not working and should be fixed.

  • An indicator light is dark or flickering

Each eye carries a small status lamp. A dark, blinking or dim one points to dirt, poor alignment, damage or lost power.

How We Fix Sensor Faults

  1. 1

    Check alignment and cleanliness

Lenses are wiped, brackets are checked for movement and both eyes are re-aimed until each shows a steady light.

  2. 2

    Follow the wires

We follow the low-voltage wires for cuts, loose connections or rodent damage, since those are common causes of intermittent faults.

  3. 3

    Replace failed units

If an eye has died or the lens is damaged, we fit a compatible replacement and connect it to the opener properly.

  4. 4

    Test the reversal

An obstruction is placed in the beam and the door is checked to stop and reverse each time it should.

Sensor Questions

Why does my door reverse in bright sun?

Strong light shining directly into the receiving eye can disrupt its signal. Shading the lens, adjusting its angle or moving the bracket often solves it, and we can work out which approach suits your door and its position.

Can I bypass the sensors to keep using the door?

We do not recommend it. The eyes are the main protection for people, pets and vehicles, and an opener without working eyes should not be relied on. Repairing them is usually straightforward and well worth doing.

Do sensors need replacing often?

Not usually. Most problems come down to dirt, misalignment or wiring rather than failure of the eye itself. Dust and insects can build up on outbuilding doors, so an occasional wipe of the lenses is worth the effort.
